So since my wife has started her job, we have different sleep schedules. Her and I do not see eye-to-eye on the sense of humor side of things (what a stick in the mud!!...j/k) But with me primarily working evening shift and her working morning shift, she goes to bed at 11pm and I'm wired. This has opened me up to NBC's late night shows -- Conan O'Brian and Jimmy Fallon.
I was tipped by one of my wife's former co-workers that she actually liked Jimmy Fallon more than Conan O'Brian. I thought this was kind of odd since I recalled Conan being freaking hilarious, but it also made me very curious to check out this late night lineup. Now that I had a great opportunity to do so, I'm addicted.
Then Jay Leno decided he wasn't finished with his talk show career -- NBC decided to stick him right before the 11pm news. I had nothing against Jay Leno, just never got into his Tonight Show. When he was on the Tonight Show, if I was going to watch a late night talk show it was going to be Letterman.
The first month the Jay Leno show was on at the 10pm slot, I was severly disappointed. I started to realize why I never really got into Leno's Tonight Show -- it seems like he tries way too hard on his sense of humor. It was more of a "Ah, I see what you did there..." type of humor, rather than a genuine funny and humorous item. And skits? The only skit that is memorable from Leno is "Headlines" -- which I give him credit on this, there have been some pretty good segments of "Headlines". But that's it!
Now with all the drama that has been happening -- Leno's show at 10pm being cut, NBC wanting to put him back at the 11:35pm slot for 30 minutes, pushing Conan back to 12:05am, etc...Does NBC seriously think that there isn't going to be any backlash on this? I really don't think it's a good idea to move the time slot for the Tonight Show to 12:05am -- it has never been at that time slot (unless there was some rather serious programming that went beyond the alloted time slot, but who cares?).
In a game of "Who's got more class and integrity?", some say it's not quite a simple as "Jay Leno should just move on and let Conan have his time! Brahhh grabble grubble whargarbl!!" Some may argue that Jay Leno shouldn't have been moved out of the way in the first place, but Leno didn't make any real fight against NBC executives to retain his spot on the Tonight Show.
What, you didn't fight for the show Leno? And now you're acting like a fucking stubborn pissed-off teenager wanting your show back? I'm quite sure you realize that you're looking an egotistical prick with a chin that can open a can of corn, right?
Conan, on the other hand, realizes the shoes he stepped in when he took the reins of the Tonight Show and the legacy that he was supporting. He also realizes that he wasn't going to be in a position where the late night lineup, which had been around for a LONG FUCKING TIME!, was going to shift with him in the passenger seat. No, he's got class and integrity to the shoes he filled, and he's got oodles more class than Leno.
Poor ol' Fallon said he loves both Leno and Conan, and that "it's like I just married a woman, and just got to know my new in-laws -- who are CRAZY". If Fallon gets pushed out of the lineup completely, I will never watch NBC again -- until Zucker the Fucker goes away.
To conclude, I certainly hope Leno gets off his high horse and just moves on. If he doesn't, Conan will, and I will follow. And if Fallon goes away, NBC will cease to exist for me.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming, if it hasn't been rescheduled yet...

I really hate PETA.
Look -- I get it. We feel the compassionate need to develop a group to protect rights of living organisms -- whatever, I get it. Sure, it's a good idea to rally people into a group to be against unethical treatment to things like, a pet dog/cat/horse/etc -- I get it. I'm a dog lover, not a cat fan, understand how people can have a bond with their pet -- I get it.
However, I DO not get how someone with sharp, canine teeth can decide to not eat meat. I DO not get how this animal rights group decides to act like a bunch of fucking snobs to those that eat meat.
I love steak. In fact, if I could eat it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert, I totally would. I even like cheap steak. If you don't eat meat, then don't eat meat. Don't try to convince me to be a fucking bunny-like leaf eater.

Multi-kid Reality Shows!? Enough, please!
Okay, so at first it was intriguing. Went from twins and then BOOM! -- sextuplets. You had a mild-mannered husband, and a somewhat control-freak wife, trying to work together to raise 8 kids. It's a good reality-show concept, and it seemed the cast was not over-the-edge...yet.
All of the viewers were watching how TLC exposed the weird behaviors and 'preferences' Kate had with everyday life -- cameras allowed almost everywhere except the kitchen, extreme critiquing of house cleaners they've tried to hire, no feet on pillows? On top of this, her directive behavior towards her husband, who was pretty much just doing what he was told. From the looks he gave the camera on their husband+wife interviews, almost anyone could tell that he had little or no control or content into their family.
Things start escalating from there -- for both good and, obviously, bad. They move out of their house and into a bigger and better one. They start taking more vacations to other places (mostly thanks to venues giving them complementary accommodations), and it seemed like Jon no longer was working from home. Jon and Kate both got surgical procedures done to improve their appearance (Kate got a tummy tuck, Jon got hair treatments). Life seemed to be going in the right direction, from a material perspective.
Presently, we all now know that it went from this apex of good things happening for the couple and their family, to inflamed tensions leading to divorce and Jon seeking other women. All of the viewers were seeing just a portion of what this family has been going through, yet the media is still making a big deal about the show's cancellation. Why?
It doesn't stop there. The Duggars? 18 kids (+1 more coming)? All of these kids because of some interpretation in the bible? Nothing but skirts because of some line in the bible interpreted to the effect of not showing your thighs? Dress that way because you do not want to put naughty thoughts into other people's minds because of the way you dress?
Don't get me wrong -- I have nothing but respect for the Duggars. They have an extremely solid foundation on family life, and they have mostly good ideals and practices for their families. But there are some things that just make me want to find a way to prove them wrong. For instance --
Why do you leave it up to God to say when you will stop having kids? Is this same mentality done when you choose your breakfast? Do you ever think that God gave you a right to choose things for a reason? If you start giving me that 'we made this decision -- it's our own personal affirmation', then say you made that decision instead of moving the accountability to God. I'm sure there are stories in the bible to the effect of having several kids, but these events occured in a time where procreation was done to support a family for living and for protection -- those days were full of war and malice, and law enforcement was nowhere near where it is now. Times do change -- chisel that in your stone tablet if you still want to live out ancient interpretations.
More on this later.
